ピッコローミニのテキスト「数学の確実性についての注釈」(1547年)に展開されている数学論は,様々な過去の思想の影響をとどめる.本年度の研究では,特にプロクロスに焦点を絞り,ピッコローミニがどのようにプロクロスを読んだのか,またピッコローミニがいかなる歴史的・思想的文脈のなかでプロクロスを読んだのかを考察した.1,結果としてまず,ピッコローミニがほぼプロクロスの見解をそのまま受け継いでいる場合があることが明らかになった.数学の有用性の問題がその好例である.(1)数学の様々な有用性についてはプロクロスが論じているが(『ユークリッド「原論」第1巻注釈』),ピッコローミニはその議論のうち,数学の精神的価値に強調をおきながら肯定的に紹介している.また数学の実用的価値(軍事的,商業的用途等)については独自の見解を披瀝している.(2)このことから,プロクロスの数学論が16世紀中頃のパドヴァ・アリストテレス主義において,少なくとも一定程度の支持基盤をもっていたことが推測できることを確認した.2,ピッコローミニのプロクロス受容が16世紀の科学志向の人文主義(古代科学のルネサンス)のひとこまとして位置づけることができることを明らかにした.(1)ピッコローミニの伝記をもとに,彼の学問的関心がアリストテレス主義と人文主義との交流によって形成されたことを示した.(2)古代科学への関心,古代科学書の復興というピッコローミニの学問的特徴が,ピッコローミニとプロクロス『ユークリッド「原論」第1巻注釈』との出会いのきっかけを作った可能性を示唆した.(3)ピッコローミニによるプロクロス受容は16世紀においては例外的ケースではなかったことを,人文主義者ジョルジョ・ヴァッラ(1500年没)と彼によるプロクロス受容の例を通じて示した.
