沈香は、東南アジアの熱帯雨林特有の林産物であり、長年にわたり交易の対象となってきた。本研究は、沈香の交易をめぐる社会関係に注目して、交易にかかわる人間集団間の持続的関係性について考察したものである。沈香の採集民であるプナン人と仲買人である農耕民との間には、タムと呼ばれる物々交換の市がもたれていた。タムを通じて、互いの知識や情報を交換、交流することによって、それぞれの生業や生活戦略を「進化」させてきたとみることができる。

The forest products unique to the Southeast Asian region are the same as those of the Southeast Asian region. This study examines the relationship between social relationships and social interaction. The agarwood gatherers and buyers of agarwood are everywhere, and the market for the exchange of goods and goods is everywhere. The exchange of knowledge and information between the two sides of the border is an important part of the process of development.
