近代日本陶磁器業における産業構造を、小零細経営、中小企業、機械制大工業という複層的な視点から分析した。このうち平成19年度中に刊行が決定した研究成果としては次のものがある。(1)機械制大工業を実現した日本陶器(現ノリタケカンパニーリミテド)の母体となった森村組と、有田においてそれに失敗した起立工商会社とを比較し、外国語論文にまとめ上げた。(2)各産業構造にそれぞれ固有の成形技術に関して論文をまとめた。また、刊行未定のものとしては、WWIを契機として産業構造が以下に変化したかを明らかにした論文がある。平成18年度および平成19年度における科学研究費補助金(若手研究B)により、近代日本陶磁器業の特徴としては、幕末開港期からWWI以前においては各経営形態の間に棲み分け関係が成立していたが、明治末期における機械制大工業の定着とWWI期における市場の急拡大により、生産量の急増を求められた生産者達が、下請関係を網の目のように形成することにより、それに対応した様子が明らかとなった。従来は、日本経済の帝国主義的進出ゆえに市場の狭隘さが強調されてきたのであるが、国内外の市場の拡大という視点で捉えなおした本研究により、パイの拡大下における生産システムの変化を実証的に検討することができた。
