1950年から1970年において、英連邦に資源大国が多かったことが、英系資源企業の競争力をもたらした、という仮説について実証的な検証を行うことが本研究の主な課題であった。この仮説検証にあたって、主要な英系資源企業であるリオ・ティント社のBP社の対外投資についての研究を行った。英系資源企業は、資源ナショナリズムの下での困難と資源国有化を経験した後、政治的に安定し、かつ友好的な英連邦諸国への投資を増大させた。この英系資源企業の行動変化は、主要資源企業の間で共通していた。また、英連邦諸国の資源産出量と英系資源企業の投資の間に拡大の好循環が見られた。したがって、英連邦の資源大国と英系資源企業の競争力の間の関連が確認された。

From 1950 to 1970, the British Commonwealth was a resource-rich country, and the competitiveness of British resource-based enterprises was examined. This is the main topic of this study. The research on foreign investment of BP company is carried out in the field of research and development of BP company. British resource companies are facing difficulties in resource management, resource nationalization, political stability and investment from friendly British countries. The change of action of British resource enterprises and the common development of major resource enterprises. The amount of resources output in the United Kingdom and the investment in British resource enterprises have been greatly improved. The relationship between the competitiveness of British resource enterprises and British resource countries has been confirmed.
