高齢者との世代間交流は、生徒にとって高齢者と接する貴重な機会である一方、エイジズムを助長させることもある。B.Friedmanは「エイジング教育と関連していない世代間交流プログラムでは、生徒は交流対象である高齢者を永続的に理解することがほとんどできない」と述べている。従って、高齢者との世代間交流は「ふれあい」という段階にとどまらず、他者とのかかわりによって自己省察し、主体的な生活や人生を営むことができるライフマネジメントスキルを育成する活動として位置づける必要がある。本研究の目的は、Aging Educationの理論を導入した教科教育カリキュラムを、異世代に関する学習の中心的役割を担う家庭科において開発することである。中学校家庭科担当教員の調査結果を踏まえ、実現可能性を重視して、既に実施されている世代間交流活動と連携したエイジング学習の授業を構想・実践し、その効果を検討した。はじめに加齢イメージや高齢者との交流、現在の生活や自分自身について調査した。次に「エイジングを考える」授業を、世代間交流活動(3日間の高齢者福祉施設訪問)の後に実践した。さらに事前調査とほぼ同内容の事後調査を行った。事前調査において中学生は加齢についてややマイナスのイメージを持っていたが、高齢者との交流に対する姿勢は積極的であった。高齢者との接し方に強く感じていた不安は、事後調査で大半が解消した。他の交流機会への参加意欲は14.5%上昇した。授業内容には93.5%が「興味を持てた」と回答し、生涯を見通した現在の生活に対する重要性を83.1%が感じていた。授業の結果、加齢に対するイメージ得点で顕著な差は表出しなかったが、ワークシートの記述からは意識の変化が認められた。世代間交流活動と連携させて「自己が老いる」視点でエイジング学習を行うことは、生涯を見通して現在の生活を振り返るために有効であった。
