本研究は、眼科外来のみならず生活場面において行う拡大ロービジョンリハビリテーションの効果を検証することを目的とした。ロービジョン者を拡大リハ群(訪問指導)と従来リハ群(外来指導)に分け、拡大読書器の使用法を指導し、拡大リハ群では実地で環境調整も行った、ところ、両群とも拡大読書器の操作習熟度や作業効率、視機能関連QOL(近見視力による行動、全体的見え方)が向上した。拡大リハ群ではさらに"心の健康"の側面が向上した。長期的効果(3ヵ月後)は両群で大きな差がなかった。
