A Study on the Introduction of Literacy at the Beginning Level of English Education in Japan

本研究的目的是为了促进小学阶段的英语识字教育，这在日本一直被忽视。语音意识和字母知识是实现识字的必要组成部分。我们的研究表明，通过写作练习掌握字母和拼写对识字是有效的。通过对东亚各国小学英语课的观察，我们认识到了在日本小学阶段提高识字率的重要性。

This study was conducted in order to promote English literacy education at the elementary school level, which hitherto has been neglected in Japan. Phonological awareness and alphabetical knowledge are necessary components in order to achieve literacy. Our study revealed that writing practice to master the alphabet and spelling is effective for attaining literacy. Through observing English classes at elementary schools in East Asian countries, we realized the importance of promoting literacy at elementary school level in Japan.
