見るという行動を理解するうえで、ものを見ることが引き金となって新たな「見る」を含む様々な行動を産出するという、前駆行動としての能動的な「見る」と、ものを含む環境が見る行動を制御した結果、特定のものや場所を見るようになるという、環境条件との受動的な関係にある「見る」に注目した。これらを視線による制御、視線の制御として取り扱った本研究では、選択行動が特定のものに向かう条件でもその前駆行動としての視線は良い予測を与えないことや、周辺視野への制限に比例して視線移動の変化が生じることが確かめられた。
在理解观察的行为时，我们专注于主动的“看到”作为先驱动作，在这种行动中，事物的观看触发了他们制定各种动作，包括新的“景观”，以及与环境条件的被动关系，其中包含事物的环境控制着观察的行为，并且对它们的观察变得可见或特定的位置。在这项研究将这些视为控制和凝视控制的研究中，已经证实，即使选择性行为针对特定事物，凝视作为前体行为也不能提供良好的预测，并且凝视运动的变化是按照对外围视觉的限制而发生的。
