第2ベッチ数1をもつ3次元複素アフィン空間の非射影的コンパクト化(X, Y)については, 境界因子Yがnefの場合は, 指数2以下の高々ゴレンスタイン端末特異点を持つ3次元ファノ多様体によるコンパクト化の分類に帰着されることが分かる.特に, 指数2の場合は(X, Y)の構造は解明されているが, 指数1の場合は, 具体的な例(モデル)は在する者の, 最終的な構造の決定までは至ることが出来なかった.しかし, 境界因子を詳細に解析する事により, 境界の位相的・代数的構造と全体空間の位相的・代数的構造との関連について結果を得た.Yがnon-nefの場合は, 古島によって構成された無限個の例について, 解析的な不変量を定義し, 具体的にその不変量を求めた.
