代数多様体の相対グロタンデイーク群の共変関手から有理数係数多項式を係数とするホモロジー群の共変関手への自然変換である「モチビックHirzebruch 特性類」が有限集合の濃度の概念の自然な拡張であることを示した。また、モチビックHirzebruch 特性類の双変理論を構成するための準備として、代数多様体のLevine-Morelの代数的同境理論(algebraiccobordism)の双変理論のひな形とも言うべきoriented bivariant theoryを構成した.
