微小地震によって励起される短周期地震波の伝播特性を解析し, リソスフェアのランダム不均質構造の推定を行った. 順問題として, パルス波が伝播距離の増加と共に崩れ, 最大振幅が初動より遅れ, P波の場合にはトランスバース成分が励起されることを解明した. 逆問題として, 最大振幅遅延時間の解析からランダム不均質のスペクトル構造を推定する方法を構築し, 東北地方における解析から第4紀火山の下では不均質が強いことを明らかにした.
