ミヤマタネツケバナで, 緯度傾度に沿って環境からもたらされる自然選択圧がフィトクロム遺伝子群に与える影響について調べた。phyA-phyEまでの塩基配列を解析して、非中立進化を検証した。そしてphyEが緯度傾度に沿って自然選択を受けており, 非同義的置換がPHYドメインに集中して蓄積していた。このことは, 緯度によって異なる光環境に対して適応し, 種内で種内分化が起きていることを示唆している
