アレイCGHを用いて腎細胞癌(CCC)の発症にかかわるゲノム異常を検索したところ、特に14番染色体長腕(14q)の欠失が、高悪性度のCCCで高頻度にみられた。さらに網羅的遺伝子発現解析(トランスクリプトーム解析)を行い、ゲノムのコピー数異常が遺伝子発現異常に影響を与えていることを見出した。14qで遺伝子発現低下を示した遺伝子のいくつかは、実際に腎癌で遺伝子の発現が減弱しており、CCCの悪性化に関わる癌関連遺伝子と考えられた。
