各国のIT技術活用状況や医療の質・効率性に対する影響に関して、電子カルテおよび導入病院、オーダリング・システム導入病院へのアンケート調査を実施した。さらに、医療施設静態調査、患者調査を用いた実証分析を行い、同一疾患同一手術における平均在院日数を効率性の尺度とし、電子カルテのもたらす効率性を定量的に明らかにした。分析の結果、手術件数の多い上位15疾患・手術のうち8疾患・手術で電子カルテ導入施設と非導入施設間に有意な差が認められた。
