本研究課題では,高い病原性と薬剤耐性菌の出現により院内感染を引き起こすとして社会問題になっている,黄色ブドウ球菌の鉄獲得システムのひとつであるIsdシステムに着目し,Isd システムの蛋白質中に存在するヘム結合ドメイン,NEAT(NEArTransporter)ドメインのヘム結合特性を解析した.その結果,1分子のIsdH-NEAT3 が多分子のヘムと結合できることを見出した.この知見は,効率よくヘムを取り込むために発達した機能と推察される.本研究で解析したIsdH-NEAT3 は,Isd システムの最上流に位置する蛋白質であり,多分子のヘムを結合することで,系全体の効率の向上に貢献すると考えられる.
