減数分裂第一・第二間においては、2連続で分裂装置を形成させるために、スピンドル極体の複製が減数第一分裂の終期に起きること、さらにそれがサイクリン依存性キナーゼ(CDK)の活性に依存することを明らかにした。さらに、スピンドル極体が複製後に核内に埋め込まれる必要があるが、これもCDK活性に依存した現象であることが明らかとなった。
