環境中の化学物質や、食品中の成分、薬剤の中にはエストロゲンなどのヒトが持つホルモンと構造が似たものがあり、それらを摂取することによって正常なホルモンの働きに悪影響が起こることが懸念されている。本研究では、培養細胞にエストロゲン様の化学物質を加えてその影響を調べたところ、DNAメチル化を担う遺伝子の発現が変化したことから、エピジェネティクスという遺伝子発現の調節機構に影響が起こることが示唆された。
