すでに作成済みの全国一括出土銭データベースのチェック作業と,各県ごとで個別に出土している銭貨を報告書から拾い出し,県別データベースの作成作業をおこなった。博多遺跡群の出土銭貨については,福岡市埋蔵文化財センターに収蔵されている現物チェヅク作業を,昨年度に引き続きおこなった。出土銭貨の量的膨大さと,2年間という時間的な制約のために,完成にまでは至っていないが,現在も作業中である。出土銭貨研究会の協力を得,機関誌『出土銭貨』での情報収集・発信も継続しておこなっている。歴史資料としてはあまり重視されてこなかった出土銭貨を使用して,ある歴史事象を解明するためには,資料が散在しいている出土銭貨のデータベース化は必要不可欠である。このデータベースは考古資料の整備という点のみならず,経済史など関連諸学問の研究資料として利用することが可能となったという点でも重要である。例えば,研究代表者は岩波書店から出版された(鈴木公雄編)『貨幣の地域史』に,博多遺跡群出土銭貨データベースを使用した論文を発表した。この中で,博多遺跡群から出土した銭貨を時期別にデータ処理することによって,中世都市「博多」では14世紀後半から15世紀前半に銭貨流通量が減少しているという事実を明らかにできた。このことは文献史でいう当時の東アジアで共時的におこっていた銭荒、銭貴の現象とも一致する結果となっており,史実を異なった側面から検証することにつながった。また,時代や地域によっては,一括出土銭と個別出土銭に見られる銭種組成が必ずしも一致しないという事実が明らかになり,これをどのように解釈するかについて問題を提起することとなった。
