平成28年度は遺伝子実験の環境整備と陽性対照実験の実施のみで終了した．分子遺伝実験環境に問題がないことを確認できた．平成29年度は詳細な研究プロトコルを最終決定し，プロトコルのみを論文(プロトコル論文)としてOpen Accessジャーナルへ投稿・発表予定であった．しかし研究協力者が本務多忙につき，論文投稿までには至らなかった．研究期間の半ばを過ぎてもデータ獲得が為されていないこの危機的状況から脱するため，われわれは大きな研究戦略の変更を行った．まず新たな研究戦略の方向性を模索するため，平成29年10月に米国麻酔学会(マサチューセッツ州，ボストン市)へ出張し，いくつかの着想を得た．当初の予定はDNAマイクロアレイで少数のサンプルを用いた疑似ゲノムワイド関連解析を行う予定であったが，過去に取得したデータのインシリコ解析を最初に行うことでゲノム上の対象領域を狭めて遺伝子解析を行う方針とした．しかし，あまり有意な知見は得られなかった．また臨床データ取得のための研究協力者が本務多忙な状況は依然として変わらず，新たに協力者を探したが適任者が見つからなかった．研究期間内(平成31年3月まで)に解析に値する臨床データ，遺伝データを得ることはできないと考え，研究の遂行中止を決断した．そのため科学研究費の補助をこれ以上，受益するわけにはいかないため，日本学術振興会への補助金返上を最後に行った．研究は研究期間内に遂行できなかったが，あらためて研究資金を獲得できれば再開する予定である．
