项目摘要

これまでに2点の研究成果を出しており、1点は2019年3月にWEAI (Western Economic Association International)15th International Conferenceで発表（査読付き・口頭）を行った。1点目の研究成果は、ケニア共和国における母親の教育年数がその子どもに対する教育投資に与える影響である。開発途上国において、母親の教育年数が子どもの教育投資に与える影響を準実験的な枠組みで検証した論文は少なく、一方で出産経験や第一子出生年齢、子どもの幼少期の保健・医療支出に与える影響実証研究が存在する。使用した観察データでは母親の教育年数が義務教育の有償化により平均的に短くなったことを確認でき、またその子どもたちに関する詳細な教育支出変数が存在する。よって仮説検証に適しており、既存研究にも新たな知見を与えた実証研究となった。1点目の実証研究を行う上で、開発途上国に特有な課題が浮かび上がった。それは、制度変更とコンプライアンスに関するものである。準実験的な因果推論の手法として「操作変数法」が存在するが、しばしば制度変更に対するコンプライアンスが高くないケースが考えられる。例えば「教育制度の変更により義務教育年数が延長し平均教育年数が長くなる」のは、人々が制度変更に従うからである。しかし開発途上国では制度変更が生じてもコンプライアンスが高くない場合があり、この場合には操作変数法によって推定できるのは「局所的な」グループに限定される。2点目の研究成果は、操作変数法を使用した場合の異質性に着目した論文である。本研究は、開発途上国において操作変数法を行う場合に、コンプライアンスが低い問題点に着目し、局所的な処置効果以外に求まるパラメタを解釈した。本論文の結果は現在、頑健性の確認をしている段階である。
