本研究の目的は、TTR-FAP患者の症状マネジメントについて実態調査を行い、患者向けのガイドブックを作成することである。しかし、COVID-19感染症のため直接研究対象者である患者と面談する機会がない状況にあった。TTR-FAP患者は、全身臓器にアミロイドが沈着するため、末梢神経障害、自律神経障害、全身症状といったように様々な症状がおこる。特に、本研究においては、患者の症状である視力低下、手指の筋力低下のため、調査はオンライン等で代替することは難しく、直接対面でなければ不可能な状況にあった。そのため、現在まで研究を延期してすすめてきたが、COVID-19感染症が徐々に落ち着いたことで、研究対象者である遺伝性神経難病TTR-FAP患者とも直接面談することが可能となってきた。現在は、研究期間が経過したため、昨年度から予定している調査票について修正している段階である。調査内容については、心身のQOLを測定する。例えば、現在計画している調査は、不確かさ尺度、不安抑うつ尺度、SEQOL尺度などである。また、これまでの一次調査により、TTR-FAP患者の様々な症状の中でも腹部症状（下痢、便秘）に対する苦痛が日常生活を阻害していることがわかった。患者は、外来受診時や外出の際に食事を食べずにいたり、いつもトイレを気にする生活を送っていることがわかったため、腹部症状についての症状マネジメントに焦点を当てて研究することとした。

The symptoms of abdominal pain (diarrhea, constipation) in patients with TTR-FAP are detrimental to daily life.
