アレルギー性鼻炎や好酸球性副鼻腔炎はアレルギーが関与する代表的な上気道の炎症性疾患である。今回我々は、これらの疾患の病態にプロスタグランジン(PG)代謝が関与するのか検討した。その結果、アレルギー性鼻炎や好酸球性副鼻腔炎の病態には、PGD2やPG2がそれぞれ促進的および抑制的に働くことを明らかにした。従ってこれら上気道アレルギー疾患の新規治療法として、PGD2とその受容体を阻害する系、あるいはPGE2とその受容体を活性化する系の開発が有望であることが示唆された。
