臨床において, 痛みを感じないレベルの低出力のレーザーでむし歯を削ると, その後に填塞するレジンの接着性は一般に低下する。しかし, 中出力~高出力で削ると痛みは感じるが, 後続のレジンの接着性はあまり低下しないことを明らかにした。この研究成果より, 低出力(50mJ/10pps)で虫歯を注意深く除去した後, 中出力(150mJ/pps)でその面をもう一度レーザー照射すると(フィニッシング照射), 臨床的にほとんど痛みなく, かつ, レジンの接着性も低下しないことを見出した。
