"痛み"の治療において非常に重要な役割を果たしているオピオイド拮抗性鎮痛薬の作用機序を明らかにすることを目的として研究を行った。本邦で臨床使用されているオピオイド拮抗性鎮痛薬のうち、ブトルファノール、ペンタゾシンを中心として鎮痛作用機序を解析し、熱ならびに機械刺激による痛みに対する鎮痛効果の発現にはμオピオイド受容体が主要な役割を果たしているが、化学(内臓)刺激に対してはμおよびκオピオイド受容体がその効果の発現に重要であることを明らかとした。
