ソ連邦崩壊後に成立した中央アジア諸国(ウズベキスタン、キルギス、カザフスタン、タジキスタン、トルクメニスタン)における民族、宗教、言語文化の変化過程を研究対象とした本プロジェクトでは、タシケント東洋学大学内に設置された筑波大学中央アジア国際連携センターを拠点に、新秩序形成期の基礎資料収集を行い、今後の多民族共存、市民社会形成、宗教復興運動といった問題系への展開の方向が明確となった。
