研究代表者は2009年8月末から9月前半にかけてキューバとメキシコに調査旅行に赴いた。コロンビアの文学研究において豊かな研究資料を所蔵するキューバの文化研究機関「アメリカ大陸協会Casa de las Americas」や「キューバ映画芸術産業研究所Instituto Cubano del Arte y Industria Cinematografico」を訪れ、1週間にわたって文献資料調査を行うとともに、「アメリカ大陸協会」では、研究者のカリダー・タマヨCaridad Tamayo氏に面会し、本研究プロジェクトについてキューバ文学史との差異化の観点から資料提供や専門的知見を受けた。また同様に、作家のレオナルド・パドゥーラLeonardo Padura氏からは、国民文学史を乗り越えた「カリブ文学」構想に関する助言を受けた。さらにメキシコシティでもコロンビア文学研究者および作家と意見交換を行った。本研究はコロンビアの国民文学生成プロセスを他国との差異に注目しながら検討することであるが、実際にキューバを訪れて研究者と意見交換を行うことで、20世紀前半期における文学状況を多角的にとらえることが可能になり、現地を訪れる意義は極めて高かったと考えられる。カリブ海諸国やヨーロッパ諸国との関係が密であった島国キューバとは異なり、大陸にあるコロンビアでは外部との知的交流では活発度に欠け、コロンビアのやや「自閉的かつ自己完結的」な国民文学生成が浮き彫りになった。しかも、こうした文学史の成立事情がナショナリズムの強度を下支えし、「国家」を基本単位とする政治に対しての期待を広く醸成していることが見て取れた。本研究が文学史研究にのみ資するものでなく、より広い射程をもっていることが多少なりとも確認されたと考えられる。
