明治時代以降の社会変動の中で、旧大名家の多くは財産を手放し、各家に代々伝えられてきた什物類や作成されてきた文書類などは、現在、それぞれ別の機関に所蔵されるところとなった。本研究は、江戸時代の大名家文書に含まれる染織品に関する記録と実物染織品とを相互に検証し、武家社会の生活の中で、衣服の用いられてきた時・場所・人物・用途などを明らかにすることを目的とする。特に、これまでの染織史研究において、ほとんど用いられることの無かった大名家文書について、基本的な情報を整備することは、今後の武家伝来の染織品研究を進める上で土台となる研究であると考える。本年度はまず、昨年度から作成してきた大名家文書のデータベースについて、情報の精度を高めることに加えて、特に、全国各地に保管される大名家文書の収集と武家伝来の染織品の実物調査に重点を置いて研究を進めた。具体的には、大名家文書のデータベースについては、昨年度までに史料の伝存状況の良好な大名家165件を中心に、文書の基礎的な情報（名称、所蔵先、点数、資料番号）についての整理・データ入力を終えたので、本年度はこれをもとに、各機関の刊行している資料目録を用いて、染織品に関する記録のデータの入力を行った。続いて、大名家文書の収集については、福井県立図書館所蔵の松平家文書、明治大学博物館所蔵の内藤家文書、熊本大学寄託永青文庫所蔵の細川家文書、国文学研究資料館所蔵の津軽家、土屋家、蜂須賀家の各家の文書を調査、収集した。また武家伝来の染織品の実物調査については、福井市立郷土歴史博物館所蔵の松平家伝来染織品、東京国立博物館所蔵の尾張徳川家伝来染織品について、調査・撮影を行った。本研究は三年計画で進めてきたが、本年度で区切りとなったため、次年度以降、これまでに収集した文書資料と実物染織品とを精査し、相互の関連性について考察を加え、調査結果の発表を行う。
