本研究は、日本と韓国に分散し朝鮮総督府記録群の管理システムについて記録史料管理学的観点から比較分析し、記録を共有するためのシステム構築を目指し、大きく分けて三方向からのアプローチを試みた。第一に、既存の研究成果を調査・分類・整理し新たな知見を得る助けとした。第二に、朝鮮総督府記録を所蔵する韓国及び日本の主要機関(韓国:国家記録院・国史編纂委員会・高麗大学・馬山市、日本:国立公文書館、国会図書館・学習院大学・山口県文書館)を訪問し、資料の所蔵量・保存処理手続き・管理システム・公開及び活用状況を実見した。第三に、記録学的観点から朝鮮総督府官報の調査、総督府の各部局に対する政策・予算・人事など決栽ライン、および原本出所と所蔵先についての調査・考察を行った。その結果、朝鮮総督府記録の完結構造(日本内閣による政策・人事・予算の決定、朝鮮総督府による施行という垂直構造)、朝鮮総督府記録の範囲(公文書、総督府人事の私文書など)、終戦をまたぐ激動期における記録の流出・分散・廃棄の問題点が明らかとなり、朝鮮総督府記録は一国史的次元ではなく、日韓の国家レベルを超えて総合的に認識・把握されなければならないということが明確になった。また戦前戦後の激動の歴史状況において韓国・日本はもちろん、アメリカなどにも分散することとなった朝鮮総督府関連記録の特殊性をも理解するに至った。また本研究では朝鮮総督府記録の特殊性という認識に基づき、その記録を共有するための方策として「一体型植民地記録共有システム」を試案として提示した。日・韓におけるMF・デジタル化など記録共有のための物理的な基盤は造成されているため、最も重要なのは国家レベルでの共有認識への転換である。「共有システム」の構築は全体的な見通しに加え、国際的な次元での整理・目録記述の標準化を目指してコンテンツの創造が求められる。朝鮮総督府記録群の記録共有システムは韓国と日本の二国間での有効性のみならず、世界規模での研究領域に拡張される必要性がある。こうした認識から「共有システム」の構築は日・韓・朝・米間の歴史認識の共有のための最も基礎的な土台となり得ると考えられる。
