本研究は、近代化の影響を受容する過程において、モーケンの移動・空間がどのように変化してきたのか、またそれは彼ら彼女らが認識する生活世界にどのように反映されているのかを明らかにするものである。研究をすすめるにあたって「移動」及び「空間」両概念に着眼し、GIS(地理情報システム:Geographic Information System)とGPS(全地球測位システム:Global Positioning System)を応用して研究課題に取りくんできた。本年度の研究成果は(1)地図のTiff化作業及び(2)GPSで収集した位置(点)データの入力作業の二点に集約される。(1)に関しては、タイ王立測量局(Royal Thai Survey Department)で購入したアンダマン海域の紙地図のTiff(Tagged Image File Format)化作業をすすめた。PC内GISソフトで活用するための基礎的な空間情報を記録した。(2)に関しては、前年度に得たスリン諸島海域におけるモーケンの漁撈活動の地点を、緯度・経度情報としてデータに入力した。この緯度・経度情報をもとに、各地点で得られた魚種や時間帯などを属性情報として追加することで、モーケンの海洋資源の利用のあり方を浮かび上がらせることができた。この他、陸地における活動についても、これまでに得られたデータをもとに分析をすすめている。これまでのところ、GISを利用する基礎的な段階には到達しているものの、今後は、フィールドで得られたデータを細分化して、データベースへ記録する属性情報を増やし、さらなる解析をすすめる必要がある。本年度の研究により、自然科学分野の技術を応用した人文社会科学分野の一つの方向性を示すことができた。
