项目摘要

本研究はヴァヌアツ共和国のツツバ島に住む150人から500人の人々に日常的に使われているツツバ語を言語学的に明らかにし、体系的な記述を目指すものである。今年度は6月から8月にかけて2か月弱の現地調査を行い、重文と複文について明らかにした。ツツバ語では二つの対等な関係にある節は次に示す三通りの方法により結び付けられる。(1)二つの節のあいだに等位接続詞が置かれる、(2)二つの節が単純に並置される、(3)二つの節が並置され、二つ目の節が先行する節の全体または一部分を繰り返す。結び付けられる二節があらわす内容は、添加・順接、反意、選択、時の経過、因由である。このうち等位接続詞により結び付けられる二節は添加・順接、範囲、選択、時の経過、因由を表すのに対し、並置による接続と繰り返しによる接続は添加・順節と反意である。この理由としては、聞き手にとって順節・添加と範囲は前後の文脈から判断できるために等位接続詞は省略されうるが、前後の文脈から二節が選択や時の経過、因由の関係にあるとは判断するのが難しく、往々にして誤解が生じるために接続詞により明示されるからであると考えられる。並置タイプによる重文の場合、述部と述部のあいだ、または節と節のあいだにわずかに休止が置かれ、休止の前で述部1または節1のプロソディーが上昇する。そして文末に置かれた述部または節では、文の終わりにかけてプロソディーが下降する。しかし同一のプロソディーでも二節の間に休止が置かれない場合、意味的にひとつの大きな述部を形成していると解釈される(動詞連続・述部連結)。このほか複文についても調査し、主節と補語節の法や相の制約について明らかにした。
