本年度は日本列島および中国において銅鏡の実見調査を中心に研究を行った。日本列島における調査成果として特筆されるのは韓半島製小形彷製鏡の中に破鏡として扱われているものがあることを明らかにした点である。これまでの研究では破鏡は権威の象徴であった漢鏡を割って使用していたと考えられていたが、今年度の研究により韓半島製小形彷製鏡は日本列島で製作された小形彷製鏡とは価値が異なり、漢鏡同様の扱いがなされていたことを実証的に証明することができた。これにより弥生時代の銅鏡の社会的価値を再構築し、弥生時代の対外交渉とそれによって得られた物資を媒介とした弥生時代の地域間関係創出の過程を描くことができた。また中国での銅鏡の実見調査によっても非常に重要な成果を得ることができた。今年度は河南省安陽・河南省洛陽・陜西省西安・山東省済南・湖南省長沙・浙江省紹興において調査を行った。調査においてはデジタルマイクロスコープを使用し、銅鏡表面に残存する鋳造痕跡や使用痕跡の観察を行った。その結果、銅鏡には長期間使用した痕跡は見いだせないこと、そして銅鏡の製作には漢代前葉から踏み返しによる銅鏡生産が行われていたことも明らかとなった。また後漢の都が置かれた洛陽における銅鏡の副葬状況を検討したが、洛陽においては銅鏡の面径や数量が社会的地位を表していないことを明らかにすることができた。このことから漢鏡はその故地においては銅鏡は実際に姿を映す道具であり、価値の高かったものではなかったことを明らかにした。また鋳造技術の検討から、日本列島で出土する漢鏡が都である西安や洛陽以外の知で製作された可能性も見出すことができたこのように本年度は銅鏡の社会的意義を再構築することができ、対外交渉によってたらされた銅鏡や自らが鋳造した小形彷製鏡の戦略的な分配によって地域間関係や序列を形成していくという弥生社会像を示すことができた。
