项目摘要

当該年度は、一般に「回心」という語で括られる宗教的な新生あるいは再生の体験、具体的にはタウバ(イスラーム)とコンバージョン(キリスト教)、廻心(仏教)を、それぞれクルアーン、聖書(ヘブライ語旧約聖書、ギリシャ語新約聖書、ラテン語訳聖書)、『浄土真宗聖典』に基づいて比較考察し、そこに宗教の相互理解に資するような共通構造を取り出すことに取り組んだ。結論を先取りして言えば、その共通構造とは、人(自力)の転換と神(他力)の転換とが同時に成り立ち、そこにおいて人(自力)と神(他力)とが相互に回帰し、両者が逆説的に接するという構造である。これを明らかにするために、アラビア語のタウバと英語のコンバージョンの共通の語源であるヘブライ語のシューブやギリシャ語のエピストレフォーにまで遡って考究した。およそ一千か所にも及ぶ膨大な参照個所をふまえつつ、先の共通構造を浮き彫りにさせたことは、これらがいずれも各宗教の核心部分を構成するがゆえに、宗教一般を理解するうえでも大きな意義をもつ。とりわけ、宗教をもっぱら人間側の現象としてのみ捉えることの限界を示唆したことは、従来の宗教研究のあり方に一石を投じることになろう。なおこの研究成果は、『東北宗教学』第6号に掲載予定の論文「イスラームにおけるタウバとキリスト教におけるコンバージョン、そして仏教における廻心-各聖典を中心とする比較考察-」において発表することになっている。
