The development of small molecules inhibiting amyloid formation of various proteins, such as alpha synuclein, the causative protein of Parkinson's disease, were investigated. The partial peptides modified with pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) were found to specifically inhibit the amyloid formation of parental protein, but not other amyloid forming proteins.
