According to the French modern thought, especially to the philosophy of Georges Bataille and Michel Foucault, I reconsidered several aspects of the Occidental medieval culture and pointed out their unexplored characteristics. Particularly in the field of Theology, Literature and Iconography, I presented the influences of indescribable affections animating creators and appreciators in the Middle Ages. The contemporary significance of this study consists in two suggestions. It suggests that the modern historical studies should reflect on their positivistic method based exclusively on the literal documents and that, for understanding our contemporary cultures, we should give flexible and patient attention to human dark affections, which are too contradictory and changeable to be seized by the literal expression.

根据法国现代思想，特别是乔治·巴塔耶和米歇尔·福柯的哲学思想，我重新审视了西方中世纪文化的几个方面，并指出了它们未被探索的特点。特别是在神学、文学和肖像学领域，我展示了中世纪难以形容的情感对创作者和欣赏者的影响。这项研究的当代意义在于提出了两点建议。它建议现代史研究应该反思其仅以文字文献为基础的实证主义方法，并建议我们在理解当代文化时，应该灵活而耐心地关注人类的黑暗情感，这些情感太过矛盾和多变，不是文字表达所能抓住的。
