The European majolica albarello found from Osaka, was dated in the 2nd half of the 17th century, when was in the term of the National Isolation in Japan. In my study I saw and heard many albarelli using for medicine pots at pharmacy ies or hospitals in the Catholic monasteries in Europe. There found some kilns in Antwerp and Utrecht, making majolica with religious design, and they were finished until the early 17th century during the Reformation. I assume if in the early 17th some new kilns were born in Holland not dependent on the Catholic connection but familiar to the Protestant. It might be Osaka finds to be ordered to the latter type of kiln by the Japanese in the 17th century, who had known the Catholic style albarello.
