Paleobiogeographic reconstruction of marine plankton diatoms in the Pacific Ocean

研究了新近系太平洋表层水循环系统的演化与8个DSDP-ODP岩心中海藻藻（Thalassionema）和空藻藻（Cavitatus）的时空分布关系。该副热带环流在早中新世发育较弱，在晚中新世印度尼西亚海道关闭后变得更强，极有可能导致南太平洋Cavitatus物种几乎同时灭绝，以及太平洋部分Thalassionema物种向南和向北迁移。

Relationships between the evolution of surface water circulation systems in the Neogene Pacific, and the temporal and spacial distribution of cosmopolitan plankton diatoms Thalassionema and Cavitatus species in eight DSDP-ODP cores, were studied. Subtropical Gyre, weakly developed in the Early Miocene and became stronger by the Late Miocene in association with closure of the Indonesian Seaway, highly probably caused nearly simultaneous extinctions of Cavitatus species in the South Pacific, and migration of some Thalassionema species to the south and to the north in the Pacific.
