Effects of the in vivo nerve predegeneration on axonal regeneration

In this study, we investigated the effects of the in vivo nerve predegeneration on Schwann cell (SC) migration and the time course of these changes in vitro and in vivo, using explants assay and S100-GFP transgenic mouse model, respectively. Our results showed that SCs acquire significantly high migration ability with a certain period of predegeneration. This technique could be beneficial for early establishment of axonal guidance and possible functional improvement after transection injury.
