"James Joyce and the Genealogy of Oriental Studies" is a research for verifying the Eastern cultural elements of James Joyce's works which have been conventionally considered as one of the greatest European literature. The early twentieth-century when Joyce lived is the age of Japanese Imperialism in Asia. The researcher has entertained apprehensions of the possible remarkable increase of studies accusing of Japanese Imperialism unilaterally by other Asian scholars. He wishes to have a role of generalizing Asian Joyce studies academically and systematically so that both Japanese and other Asian scholars can admit them. So he has been very positive to participate in Korean and Chinese conferences. During the five-year Scientific Research of Grant-in-Aid, the researcher gave nine presentations at international conferences outside Japan and published eight academic articles (3 of which were published in Korea and 1 in China).

“詹姆斯·乔伊斯与东方研究谱系”是对被公认为欧洲最伟大的文学作品之一的詹姆斯·乔伊斯作品中的东方文化元素进行验证的研究。乔伊斯生活的二十世纪初，正是日本帝国主义在亚洲的时代。研究人员担心，亚洲其他学者单方面指责日本帝国主义的研究可能显著增加。他希望在学术上和系统地概括亚洲乔伊斯研究方面发挥作用，以便日本和其他亚洲学者能够接受他们。因此，他一直非常积极地参加韩国和中国的会议。在5年的科学研究补助金期间，他在日本以外的国际会议上发表了9次报告，发表了8篇学术论文（其中3篇在韩国发表，1篇在中国发表）。
