项目摘要

本研究は、歴史アーカイヴ研究と他のアイルランドの先行作家との比較を通じて、ジェイムズ・ジョイス作品の亡霊表象がトラウマ・ナラティヴとしての歴史の反映であることを明らかにするものであった。平成30年2月25日に早稲田大学より学位を授与された博士論文（英文学）では、主として理論的視座から、ジョイス作品における亡霊のモチーフは、作家の「個人史」だけでなく、宗教と政治の両者に於ける「植民地」アイルランドの「国史」の両者に関わることを論証した。審査員は合計３名で、早稲田大学・大島一彦教授、早稲田大学・栩木伸明教授、そして本研究の受入研究員である、一橋大学・金井嘉彦教授にお願いをした。主査の大島教授からは「幾つか不満な点がないわけではないが、先行研究の量が厖大であり、新しい論点を見つけることが容易ではないジョイス研究において、本論が亡霊表象といふ方法論的観点を採ることにより、各作品の一見無関係に見える要素を論理的に繋ぎ合せてゆく読解の手法は実に見事である。ジョイス研究史における筆者自身の立場の位置づけ、内外の先行研究の博捜と消化、テキストの精読、自己の論を支へる理論的支柱の構成、論旨の説得力、いづれの点においても優れ、本論文は課程博士学位の授与に相応しい論文であると評価出来る」との評価を頂いた。今後数年以内にこの博士論文を単著にまとめ、広く公表し、社会への還元を図る予定である。また、世紀転換期のアイルランド人の思想に影響を与えたナショナリズムとカトリシズムの亡霊、本研究が称するところの“haunting discourse”を分析すべく、政治と宗教双方のアーカイヴ調査を行った。University College Dublinの図書館に赴き（2018年3月：約3週間）、日本国内では入手できない貴重な資料を入手した。上述した単著を完成させるためにも、引き続き資料の収集と分析を行いたい。
