Study in the Crisis of the Nation-State System and Its Influence : Cases of Kosovo and South Ossetia

本研究以科索沃从塞尔维亚独立和南奥塞梯和阿布哈兹从格鲁吉亚独立这两起民族冲突事件为研究对象，明确了这两起事件的共性和差异，分析了这两起事件对国际关系的影响，并关注了这两起事件之间的相互作用。具体来说，我们三个项目参与者通过实地考察和比较研究，研究了1)冲突的背景，2)冲突的过程，以及3)冲突对国际关系和国际行为体的影响。在研究项目期间，我们每年都进行大量的实地考察，邀请了许多国外学者，召开了多次研究会议，发表了多项研究成果。我们仍在中途，但我们可以说，我们已经在我们自己之间形成了一个共同的认识框架，即从复杂的角度考虑种族冲突的意义和用途，依靠政治科学、国际关系和历史等各学科的结果。我们期待这些研究成果将在更多的跨区域和综合研究中得到利用。

This study aimed at investigating two cases of ethnic conflict : independence of Kosovo from Serbia and independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia from Georgia, making clear commonalities and differences between the two cases, and analyzing their impact on international relations paying attention also to mutual interactions of the two cases. Concretely speaking, we, three participants in the project, studied 1) backgrounds of the conflicts, 2) process of the conflicts, and 3) their impact on international relations and international actors, based on fieldworks and from comparative perspectives. During the period of the research project we carried out every year a lot of fieldworks, invited many scholars from abroad, held many research conferences, and published a number of research results. We are still on the halfway, but we can say we have formed among ourselves a common framework of perception on the meaning and use of considering ethnic conflicts from complex points of view, relying on results from various disciplines such as political science, international relations and history. We expect that these research achievements will be utilized in more cross-regional and comprehensive studies.
