本研究の目的は、性風俗世界(性風俗産業を中心に成る経済・文化・政治の複合的世界)の適法性をめぐる政治を明らかにしながら、日本の都市的生活様式の核である都市的"性"様式を解明することにある。平成22年度の成果は以下の通りである。第一は、「当事者」概念を使った本研究の方法論に関する検討である。本研究は民族誌的方法を用いた実証研究であり、実証性の確保には、調査研究方法、データの質・量、分析の妥当性などが鍵となる。研究の意義や意味を問う「当事者」議論の蓄積には、同時に実証性への問いが多く含まれる。現象学的な視点から「おんなのこ」(性労働者)と「私」(調査者)の関係を再考し、「当事者か否か」ではなく「(調査の場にいることを)許されるか否か」という点を重視して「当事者」概念を理解した本成果は、様々な実証研究に対する援用が可能である。第二は、本研究の軸となる性風俗世界と法の関係の検討である。詳細な分析の蓄積が薄かった「風営法」の条文を精査し、そのうえで、性風俗営業主体と性労働者が「適法性」を確保すべく行う諸実践を重点的に検討した。性労働者の視点を軸に、客や営業者とのつながりから性風俗世界を捕捉する本成果のアプローチは、(女性)性労働者と客・営業者を対立しあう存在として捉えることの多かった女性学や法学の成果に対して新たな視点をもたらす。第三は、「『おんなのこ』の民族誌」に向けた情報収集及び執筆活動である。東京都市部の性風俗店における参与観察調査の中で、性労働者と関係者を対象に、性労働に限られない様々な経験について情報を収集した。現在執筆中の本成果は、性風俗産業を経済・文化・政治の複合的世界として捉える本研究の根幹を成す。性の問題系から都市の人々の生を理解することは現代日本社会に生きる人々のありかたについて考えることに他ならず、都市研究を始め多くの研究分野に対する成果還元が可能である。
