本研究は、近世中期上方における書物の形成の在り方を、作者秋里籬島を軸に、その文化的基盤及び環境的事項の動態と相互連関から究明することが目的であり、本年度は主として、秋里籬島の名所図会作品を取り巻く上方出版界の動態に関する研究を行った。文化の中心が江戸に移りつつある時期に名所図会は上方から発して隆盛を見た書物群であり、この出版に関わる種々の板権をめぐる書肆の動向が解明すべき重要な点であった。具体的には、名所図会の出版に相板者として参入する京都の小川多左衛門と、名所図会の求板者である大坂の河内屋太助の二軒の書肆を分析した。小川多左衛門については、名所図会出版に参入する経緯、関連する出版履歴を跡付け、当該分野での立場や地位を推定し、領域・内容としては古い書物に連なりつつ表現方式の面で新しさを打ち出す書物の事業の展開に乗る書肆の動きを、過去の出版物の板権が当代の新たな利得に結びついた形であると捉えた。河内屋太助については、名所・地誌関連の求板活動が河内屋の営業史上の成長期の大きな動きであると捉え、その上での活動の展開を追跡し、板権を入手した書物群を自店の出版物として根付かせ、新板の書物では名所図会の応用企画を推し進めてこの分野に残された成長・展開の可能性を探っていく動向を明らかにした。これは創業以降、主力となる独自の開板を手掛ける過程において、自店の営業の基盤を支え、書肆としての実績を積むための活動という意味があり、殊に名所図会周辺の出版は、甚大な流行の余波により安定した業績が見込める活動と言える。以上のような書肆の動向が捉えられたことには、この時期の板権の持つ意味の一端を明らかにする意義がある。これに基づき、論文「名所図会をめぐる書肆の動向-小川多左衛門と河内屋太助」を執筆した。本年度はこのほかに、秋里籬島の初期作品について形成方法と制作事情に関する調査分析を行った。
