项目摘要

近世武家社会における待遇表現体系の一端を明らかにするために、近世末期桑名藩の下級武士・渡部平太夫によって書かれた『桑名日記』を対象として、そこにみられる待遇表現体系の解明に取り組んだ。本年度は、まず、昨年度までにすすめた事例検討を整理した。そこでは、昨年度末に撮影した自筆本『桑名日記』を活用した。また、新たに収集した「親類書」や「系図」といった桑名藩に残る歴史史料を用い、用例の分析に必要な登場人物の属性を把握した。その結果、下級武士とその家族の待遇表現の精細な使い分けの実態が明らかになった。従来、近世の待遇表現体系の研究は町人階級を主な対象としておこなわれてきたため、こうした武家の実態については必ずしも明らかになっていなかった。したがって、本研究により、武家社会の実態も含めたうえで待遇表現の歴史を再検討することが可能になったといえる。本年度はさらに、それらの事例検討の結果を下級武士の生活実態や社会構造との相関から捉えなおすことによって、体系全体の性格を考察した。そのようにして考察をすすめた結果、近世桑名藩の下級武士とその家族は、異なる社会構造に基づく言語共同体を背景とした二種の体系を併せ持っていたと考えられることが明らかになった。すなわち彼らは、α.城下町のような不特定多数の人と出会う流動的で大きな言語共同体で用いる体系と、β.家庭や近隣の者のような良く見知っている人どうしの固定的で小さな言語共同体で用いる体系を併せ持っていたものと考えられる。一つの社会に二種の体系が併存するという状況は、日本語の諸方言や世界の諸言語にもみられるものであることが知られているが、文献資料を対象とした研究では資料の制約もあり、これまでほとんど明らかにされてこなかった。したがって、本研究によって明らかになった近世桑名藩の実態は、言語一般の諸問題を考えるうえでも重要な視座を与えるものといえる。
