项目摘要

本研究では、学術に資する歴史的記録資料(以下、史料と記す)の劣化・消失を抑止して後世に伝えるため、日本およびヨーロッパにおける史料保存に適した環境並びにその技術に着目し、各事例を比較することで、過去から現在までの理念を統合し、薬剤を使用せず環境調査・制御というエコロジカルな手法で史料保存管理を実施する指標を提示することを目的とした。4～6月にはロシア国立図書館において湿潤寒冷気候における資料保存活動について、その歴史と環境制御技術の現状を調査した。また8月にはフランス国立図書館保存部と共同で、微生物劣化予防を目的とした歴史的建造物における環境解析とそれに基づく省エネ化の研究を進め、着実な成果を得た。9月にはヨーロッパ中央建築物理学シンポジウムCESBPにおいて発表し、米国暖房冷凍空調学会ASHRAEへの論文掲載が受理されている。10月にはフランスにて国際紙歴史学会フランス大会にて、東洋書籍に防虫防黴効果のために用いられた藍や黄檗等の染料に関する記述を古文献から抽出し、時系列的な変遷について考察した研究発表をした。1月にはフランス国立図書館保存部に再び赴き実験成果の公表について調整を進めるなど、欧州における情報収集と成果公開を通じての研究交流を密におこなった。また、一連の調査を通じて、日本とヨーロッパで空調を用いない環境での資料保存対策を比較・分析することによって得られた研究成果が、空調の使用が盛んであるアメリカ合衆国の学会誌にて受理されたことは、史料保存のための環境制御の方法論に関するグローバルな研究の発展に微力ながら貢献できたという点で意義があると考えられる。
