文化大革命(以下、文革)当時の中共天津市委員会の幹部による文革期の状況が綴られた未公開手記を入手することができ、さらにそれを翻訳して出版する(ミネルヴァ書房)ことが決定した。本年度は、昨年度から継続して、訳注や年表、資料等を充実させる作業、校正を進めた。この手記は、地方幹部の視点から、天津市における文革の展開過程について、詳細な記録を提供する資料である。天津市の文革については、先行研究であまり触れられることがなかったため、この手記の出版は、今後の文革研究に新たな情報を提供することができると考えている。また、上記の手記の分析を行った。文革期においては、革命委員会などの指導機関の新設、指導機関成員の度重なる入れ替えが起こり、組織的系統が多重化された。それにも関わらず、中共は崩壊せずに、その指導的地位を維持し得た。混乱期においても、中共が体制を維持し得たのはなぜか。そこで注目したいのが、人員の「留用」である。新しい指導機関が設置された時、ある者は新しい指導機関においても正式なポストを得る。またある者は問題があるとされて、批判を受け失脚する。しかし、それだけではない。問題があるとされて批判を受けたり、審査を受けたりしながらも、完全に失脚することなく、実際には新しい指導機関で実務に携わり、新指導機関による政権運営を支えた者達が相当程度いるのである。これを「留用」と言う。本年度は、昨年度から引き続き、「留用」の実態解明に努めた。さらに、本年度は、文革における闘争のあり方の特徴を浮かび上がらせることを目的として、スターリン支配下のソ連における粛清のあり方について、既存の先行研究のサーベイを行なった。文革とソ連における粛清では、党員排除の方法に大きな相違点がある。それは、粛清における軍及び秘密警察の役割である。この二国家間の相違を生んだ原因、相違がもたらした影響などについて考察を行なった。
