Cross-cultural research on Digital Natives

The research offers a cross-cultural comparison of the contemporary role of media in Japan, US and the UK by looking at how youths in these three countries are actively engaged in their use of media. Drawing on empirical material from the fieldwork conducted in each country, the research explores the multiple dimensions of audience engagement with media. Especially salient were issues of connectivity, digital literacy, participatory engagement, self-creation and risk. These suggest the new opportunities and risks which young people face in this global digital age.
