本研究の目的は、これまで社会学では取り上げられてこなかった人間の失踪について考察することである。上記の目的に基づき、昨年度に続いて本年度も失踪に関する包括的な研究を行った。まず、前年度までのインタビュー調査による研究成果を論文として発表した(「13.研究発表」の「雑誌論文」における2件目の論文に該当)。論文では、失踪者の家族たちの困難を心理的な側面から捉えるだけでなく、不確定な生死の線引きの問題として捉えて分析・記述を行った。この論文によって、失踪を死の社会学が考察すべき新たな問題として位置付けることができた。次に、上記の成果を踏まえた上で、本年度では「失踪者の家族たちの困難にどのように対処すべきか」という課題に取り組むために、家族たちの捜索活動を支援している日本行方不明者捜索・地域安全支援協会へのインタビュー調査ならびに参与観察を行った。この調査によって、従来のP. Bossの「曖昧な喪失」の理論では見落とされていた、生死が不確定な家族を抱える家族たちへの第三者的な支援の可能性とその課題を明らかにすることができた。以上の研究成果は、すでに学会でも発表している(「13.研究発表」の「学会発表」に該当)。さらに、個人の孤独な生や死をめぐる言説の分析を、前年度より引き続き実施した。まず、「孤独死」の言説分析の成果をまとめ、論文として発表した(「13.研究発表」の「雑誌論文」における1件目の論文に該当)。当該論文では、近年になって孤独な生から死へと至ることへの不安が高まっていること、さらにそのような「孤独死」の言説の流行によって再帰的に孤独な生と死の是非を問う議論が生まれていることを明らかにした。次に、戦後の「失踪」に関する言説の変遷を分析し、論文として発表した(「13.研究発表」の「雑誌論文」における3件目の論文に該当)。分析によって、1950年代の「家出」や1970年代の「蒸発」の言説など、個人が能動的に失踪する事態がかつては社会問題として捉えられていたことが明らかになった。

The purpose of this study is to investigate the sociological aspects of human disappearance.
