项目摘要

本研究の目的は,認識論的観点からの実在論論争の分析枠組みを整備し,これに基づいた分析を行うことで,認識論的観点からの実在論正当化の可能性を探ることにある.これまでの研究では,認識論における立場の調査を行うとともに,認識論的立場のもとでの実在論論争の分析枠組みについて検討し,これを利用して文脈主義(Contextualism)や信頼性主義(Reliabilism)といった立場からの分析を行った.前年度の研究は,a)H.22年度に整備した枠組みを利用した,認識論における調和主義の観点から実在論論争の分析,b)新帰納法に対する実在論側からの応答の検討c)Roushによる知識の帰納的追跡理論(Recursive Tracking Theory),LadymanとRossの情報理論的構造実在論(Information Theoretic Structural Realism),表現に関する近年の議論の調査,の3点からなる.以下,a)とb)において得られた結果について報告する(cの表現に関する調査については,これをもとに科学基礎論学会秋の研究大会におけるワークショップをオーガナイズし,導入的発表を行った).a)調和主義的観点からの実在論論争の分析調和主義(Coherentism)とは,「経験的信念は調和的な信念体系に属することで正当化される」とする認識論的立場である.本研究では,1985年の著書で具体的かつ包括的にこの立場を展開したBon Jourの枠組みをもとに実在論論争の分析を行い,この観点からは,近年提唱されてきている選択的実在論とでも呼べるタイプの実在論的立場がもっとも妥当性の高い立場であると結論づけた.この結果はこれまでに行った文脈主義,信頼性主義といった立場のもとでの分析と一致しており,認識論的観点からの実在論正当化の有効性を示唆するものである.b)新帰納法への応答法の検討新帰納法とは,従来の悲観的帰納法と同様の歴史的事例を用いつつも,議論の定式化を変えることで,科学者の対抗仮説を枚挙し尽くす能力に対する新たな懐疑的議論を構成したものである.これに対しては,「本質的な問題でない(red herring)」との批判もあるが,本研究では新帰納法の持つもう一つの側面,すなわち,理論の経験的成功に寄与する部分を見分ける科学者の能力(判断の信頼性)に疑いを呈する議論を取り扱い,提唱者であるStanfordがあげる科学者個人の判断の失敗例は,共同体の判断の失敗を主張するものとしては未だ不十分である,という路線の批判を行った.

The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility of the justification of epistemology. This research is based on the investigation of epistemological standpoints, the analysis of epistemological standpoints, the organization of theoretical debates, and the utilization of Contextualism and Reliabilism.
