We made an investigation into the books which Hokuseido press published before 1945, then analyzed their features and tendencies. About English translations of Japanese modern literature published by Hokuseido in Pre-war Showa era, We inquired into the intention and historical significance. We proved the fact that an attempt of the introduction of Japanese culture and literature to abroad in English had been continued in complicated relation to the social situation in Pre-war Showa era.

我们考察了北水出版社1945年前出版的书籍，分析了它们的特点和发展趋势。关于北洋出版的战前昭和时代日本现代文学的英译，我们探讨了其意图和历史意义。我们证明了这样一个事实，即在与战前昭和时代的社会形势复杂的关系中，用英语向国外介绍日本文化和文学的尝试一直在继续。
