Development of Machine Design Education to Make Aware Students of Viewpoints of Skillful Mechanic Technician by Transferring Technician's Tacit Knowledge to Explicit Knowledge

An objective of this study is to develop and propose a new mechanical design education method, which make students have a viewpoint of skillful mechanic technician. We have attempted to construct a database to make aware students of the difference between their viewpoints and skillful technician's viewpoints by themselves. In this study, as a basis of developing effective educational methods for apprentice or low-skilled technicians and engineers, we experimentally investigated the decision-making processes of highly skilled technicians before and during machining. We have attempted to apply the results to the machine design education practicum.
